Located about 30km west of Siena and off the road to Massa Maritima, it's well worth taking the side road to find the abbey and to wander round and enjoy the peace and quiet.
The Abbey of Saint Galgano (Abbazia di San Galgano) was built by Cistercian monks from the late 12th Century, the abbey fell into decline from the 15th century and is now open to the sky.
