Illawong, QLD
Illawong fauna sanctuary is one of those places where you can get close to some of the animals and birds. Most are friendly but there are a couple of birds who seem to have a taste for nibbling fingers and the crocodiles may have rather larger appetites!

The (very small) Red Browed Firetail Finch (Aegintha Temporalis). It’s a visitor to the sanctuary rather than a resident, but they are all over the place if you keep your eyes open. Common along the east coast of Australia

Update: According to the website for Illawong fauna sanctuary, it will reopen after easter 2009 with new owners.
